3rd Regional LACPASS Connectathon: Empowering Health Interoperability in the Americas- 22-24 October, Bogotà - Colombia. IHE Catalyst is proud to be there!
IHE Catalyst is proud to partner in the 3rd Regional Connectathon of the LACPASS Project and the Pan American Digital Health Pathway (PH4H) taking place from October 22-24, 2024 in Bogotá, Colombia. This event, organized in collaboration with RACSEL and the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), will showcase the region’s capabilities in cross-border health data exchange and promote the development of a sustainable digital health ecosystem in Latin America and the Caribbean.
Why This Event Matters
The LACPASS initiative, launched to reduce digital health disparities in the region, focuses on building a foundation for seamless and secure exchange of health information across borders. The Connectathon offers a collaborative environment where governments, technology providers, and health authorities come together to validate and enhance digital health standards and frameworks.
The event is particularly important in the context of COVID-19 recovery efforts, serving as a platform to test and advance Digital Vaccination Certificates and the International Patient Summary (IPS) profile. This validation is essential for ensuring that health data can be securely shared between countries, enhancing patient safety and the continuity of care across the region.
Impact of LACPASS on the Regional Health Ecosystem
The LACPASS project goes beyond testing; it is a strategic initiative aimed at building trust and capacity among countries in the region. Participating countries are adopting international interoperability standards recognized by the EU and WHO, including HL7 and IHE profiles, which are crucial for creating a unified digital health ecosystem.
During this year’s Connectathon, participants will not only validate their systems but will also engage in collaborative workshops that explore how to implement these standards in real-world scenarios. This comprehensive approach ensures that the digital health workforce is equipped with the skills needed to support ongoing digital transformation.
Connectathon Tracks
This year’s Connectathon will focus on two key tracks:
- Track 1: Cross-Border Continuity of Care
Participants will generate their own IPS-LAC profiles, making health data available via the Verifiable Health Link (VHL) for user-mediated and mobile health document exchange.
- Track 2: Digital Vaccination Certificates
Aimed at generating, interoperating, and validating immunization certificates based on WHO standards, strengthening regional efforts in pandemic preparedness and response.
